ADORN – Artisans Development On-line Retail Network

ADORN is a social enterprise with a mission to promote 
the work produced by artisans and NGOs across Pakistan 
while encouraging linkages with international buyers to 
promote growth of this sector. ADORN’s team is committed to providing good prices as well as timely payments for the products that they sell and even engage in profit sharing with the artisans, as and when possible. Some of the NGOs that ADORN represents are fair trade certified and 
the aim is to sell their products at relevant venues abroad.

Design for Change, Pakistan

Design for Change Pakistan (DFC Pakistan) is part of a global movement to engage children in actively identifying and implementing solutions to social problems. Design for Change is giving children across the world and all over Pakistan a simple four step challenge: Feel, Imagine, Do and Share. By giving children the opportunity to design solutions to the world’s greatest problems faced by the world they are growing up in, DFC Pakistan will enable children to ‘be the change’. This historic initiative is targeting students of Classes 3 through 8.

Behbud Association

Established 39 years ago, Behbud is a Karachi institution that seeks to empower underprivileged communities, particularly women across Karachi  through quality education, subsidized healthcare, skill training communities, particularly women across Karachi through quality education, subsidized healthcare, skill training for income generation purposes and rehabilitation of the distressed. Behbud gives people “a hand up, not a hand out” and envisions women in our society as educated, healthy, prosperous, empowered and responsible individuals with equal opportunities.

Naya Jeevan

Naya Jeevan’s mission is to provide social protection to low                                       income families in an efficient and inclusive manner through a unique micro health insurance model. Their model creates scalable partnerships with corporations, schools and individuals that employ low-income individuals, to leverage an existing quality inpatient and ER-trauma health care delivery system.

Concern for Children 

CFC has been working in Mohammadi Machar Colony   for years and has moved from a focus on preventive and primary health care, health education and health awareness to educational and environmental concerns for the community as well. CFC seeks to design, implement and replicate models for sustainable development for children within the at-risk populations of Mohammadi Machar Colony through intensive needs assessment.

Association for the Development of Pakistan 

ADP is a volunteer-driven, engaged philanthropy organization that funds carefully selected development projects run by local NGOs in Pakistan. These projects encompass a range of sectors including economic empowerment, environment, healthcare, education and energy. With hundreds of highly educated registered volunteers spread all over the world, ADP today is a truly global organization providing a unique platform to help develop Pakistan.

Special Children’s Educational Institute 

Special Children’s Educational Institute (SCEI) seeks to provide a                                platform for the optimal development of individuals with mental and physical disabilities. SCEI focuses not just on special education but also has a vocational training program called ‘Sunflowers’ where its students with disabilities create a variety of products for sale, the proceeds of which go right back into sustaining the program.

Children’s Museum For Peace and Human Rights

CMPHR works to provide children with a socially  relevant education by providing schools with materials to integrate into the current school curriculum. Campaigns are also run through in school activities, workshops for teachers and events outside schools on particular issues throughout the year, (e.g. disability, say ‘NO’ to violence etc), all seeking to nurture a new generation of children committed to social activism.

War Against Rape

Since 1989, War Against Rape (WAR) has been supporting              victims of sexual abuse with legal and psychotherapeutic counseling, medical assistance and crisis intervention. WAR engages directly with the broad range of social, legal, medical and administrative issues that surround such acts of violence and seeks to promote respect for human rights through community based advocacy.

The Citizens Foundation

The Citizens Foundation seeks to remove barriers of  class and privilege and make citizens of Pakistan agents of positive change through the provision of primary & secondary education in less privileged areas of the country. TCF has established over 730 purpose-built school units nationwide engaging 145,000 students reinforcing its belief that access to basic education is the right, and not privilege, of each individual.

Network of Organizations Working for People with Disabilities, Pakistan (NOWPDP)

Composed of 190 civil society and disabled persons,  organizations from around Pakistan, NOWPDP aims to make a significant difference to the quality of life and welfare of people with disabilities. Through advocating for the needs and provision of employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities as well as promoting collaboration and capacity building of relevant stakeholders, NOWPDP is generating a greater level of awareness about the abilities and rights of individuals with disabilities.

The Garage School

Having started with 14 students in a garage, TGS now serves 300 students living in Neelum Colony and Shah Rasool Colony of Karachi. The school seeks to nurture children who are not just academically competent but also tolerant, responsible, caring human beings. TGS now also has an adult literacy and vocational skills training program to further its goal of empowering communities to take ownership of their well being.

Pakistan Sustainability Network (PSN)

PSN is an emerging network of action-oriented people and                                   groups who embrace and promote sustainability in all cross-sections of society through the promotion of existing low-cost easy- to-adopt action items which are currently undertaken at an individual or small-group level regarding environmental sustainability (waste reduction, recycling, electrical use, etc), as well as local, medium start-up initiatives, and commercial work.

Citizen’s Education Development Foundation (CEDF)

Through home and mobile schools as well as sponsorships of  children for formal education, CEDF has been reaching out to children in low-resourced communities of Karachi since 1986. It seeks to equip children with the foundational knowledge that enables them to join and acquire education from mainstream school environments with a particular emphasis on educating girls.  Today, CEDF is educating 600 children on a daily basis.

Karwan-e-Hayat

Through an outpatient facility at Khayaban-e-Jami  and a Psychiatric Care and Rehabilitation Centre at Keamari, Karwan-e-Hayat has been supporting the relief, prevention, assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of psychologically distressed individuals for a long time. Having a dedicated team of psychiatrists, psychologists and social workers, Karwan-e-Hayat also seeks to raise public awareness about mental health and its related challenges.

Interactive Research and Development

Interactive Research and Development, Karachi,  Pakistan                                           is a non profit research and service organization committed to saving lives through improvements in global health. Their aim is to create opportunities for scientists and entrepreneurs that maximize the impact of health interventions in low‐income communities.

Green Roshni

Green Roshni seeks to provide renewable energy  solutions to low-income customers. It is currently in the start-up phase, after running a pilot involving the sale of 30 solar-powered lanterns in Tharparkar.

GoodNews.pk 

GoodNews.pk is a website set up in 2009 by two  brothers that focuses on positive developments coming out of Pakistan. According to the founders, “The idea behind the website is to highlight amazing, awesome and inspirational news stories coming from Pakistan, as opposed to the usual negativities that steal the headlines.”

Indus Hospital

Founded in 2007 by a group of dedicated doctors, philanthropists and businessmen, this state-of-the-art tertiary care center is the only initiative of its kind in Pakistan. All its efforts are geared towards ensuring free access to premium medical care to people hailing from disadvantaged communities, who neither have access to quality health-care services nor the means to pay for it.

OSDI – Organization for Social Development Initiatives 

OSDI was set up in 2009 by a group of concerned  professionals who pooled together their resources combined with their considerable experience in the private sector to develop a unique model for targeted poverty alleviation and sustainable development in the rural areas of Pakistan as an integral step towards positive social change in the country. OSDI has also undertaken shelter reconstruction in flood affected areas.

APWA

APWA was founded by Begum Rana Liaquat Ali Khan  soon after partition to mobilize the women of Pakistan to aid their country in a time of crisis. It currently runs three nationwide programmes for women’s health, education and economic empowerment benefiting thousands of women.


Zindagi Trust

Zindagi Trust is a non-governmental, non-profit organization that strives to improve the quality of education available to the average Pakistani. Their areas of work include reforming public schools, educating working children and lobbying the government to improve education policy. As a flagship project of school reform, SMB Fatima Jinnah Government School in Karachi has been transformed to a vibrant centre of learning through a combination of infrastructural development, administrative upheaval, academic reform and the introduction of extra-curricular activities and student development courses. Zindagi  Trust also run a non-formal education program, called Paid to Learn, which provides primary education to working children from urban slums across Pakistan.

Patients’ Aid Foundation 

Twenty-one years ago, the crumbling structure of the Jinnah Hospital, Karachi, came to the notice of a group of concerned citizens. They recognized the rich history of the hospital and the value of this facility in Pakistan. Although Jinnah Hospital provided patients with basic free medical attention, the putrid wards, deficient equipment, and the crumbling structure, made visits to the hospital unbearable. From this concern sprung the vision of Patients’ Aid Foundation. Maintaining a strictly non-political stance, PAF launched an independent drive to raise funds, to reconstruct buildings and reinstate crucial medical equipment. Having successfully completed nine huge projects, PAF has established a resolute reputation, which gives it the privilege of continuing its work diligently.

EcoEnergy Finance 

EcoEnergyFinance provides affordable renewable energy products to  communities without access to electricity through its distributor network.

Jointly supported by Justaju and Ravians, Gizri Government School is committed to improving the quality of education provided to its students.

 

CareForHealth 

A new social enterprise that aims to support mental  logohealth in Karachi & create a network of organizations that will employ/ temporarily house/train adults that have recovered from mental disorders. This platform is committed to raising awareness of the human rights emergency in mental health.

 

Hisaar Foundation 

Hisaar Foundation provides a platform for seeking  logo hisaarsolutions relevant for the water-food-livelihood nexus and promotes Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) and environmental conservation. Hisaar Foundation promotes appropriate policies and create, low-cost solutions for conservation in Pakistan by balancing environment with development through innovation.

Kiran School System

KSS endeavors to provide ‘state of the art’ education  kiran school logo to children growing up in Lyari. In the last 5 years, KSS has bridged the gap by successfully enabling 93 children to go on and acquire comprehensive education at schools across Karachi. KSS enables its students to access experiences which contribute towards their development as productive, passionate citizens.
